The Skilled Workers Role in Construction Logistics
Oct 03, 2011 | Blog
Construction Logistics is not a one man job. While there is a central role from which deliveries, equipment and stock is managed, it is the job of everyone on site to inform this individual about what is going on with their parts of the project.
It is essential then that many of the main individuals working on a site have a stake in the construction logistics plan and understand the flow around the bill of materials. There is no point imposing something on a key set of workers when they blatantly are not going to buy into an idea or timescale for delivery. Having them establish and agree a plan gives them a stake in its completion.
This stake allows them to manage their areas in as optimum a way as possible. While it is unlikely that logistics will be taught as part of any trades course or degree, it is up to the industry to ensure through best practise that skilled workers have a stake in good logistic management.
